Council meetings

The council meets every six weeks at 7pm on a Tuesday in its meeting room at the front of Willowbed Hall.

All members of the public are very welcome to speak in the democratic half hour held at 7pm and also welcome to stay while councillors discuss issues on the formal agendas.  Please feel welcome to come in.  The only part of the meeting which might be private is when contracts are discussed, and when this happens, it is at the very end of a meeting, if at all.

The following committees meet on Tuesdays in the council meeting room at the front of Willowbed Hall.  Members of the public are welcome to attend:

  • Planning* – every three weeks 7pm
  • Finance & General Purposes – every six weeks 1pm
  • Leisure & Amenities – every six weeks 7pm

*The town council is consulted by West Dorset District Council on planning applications. Each application is decided by the district council but the town council discusses new applications at its committee meetings and sends its comments to the district council by set deadlines.  Applications that will be discussed at the next town council meeting will shortly be listed on this website.

In addition, Neighbourhood Plan and Willowbed Hall Redevelopment working parties take place as and when required to discuss particular issues and report back to the committee which appointed them or to full council.

A formal record of each town council meeting is kept (minutes of the meeting) and are available on this website.
