Neighbourhood planning was introduced through the 2011 Localism Act to enable local communities to be more actively involved in planning for their area. The neighbourhood area is the geographical area which is used as a basis for each neighbourhood plan, and within which neighbourhood development orders and community right to build orders can be made.
What is a Neighbourhood Plan?
Neighbourhood planning is designed to provide a powerful set of tools to ensure we get the right types of development in the right place for our community. We aim for our ideas and views to build planning policies that reflect our local priorities, and deliver tangible local benefits.
February 2018: CHICKERELL NEIGHBOURHOOD PLAN QUESTIONNAIRE RESULTS. During November 2017 each household within Chickerell was sent a questionnaire; everyone was invited to take part to ensure that a wide range of views were received, not just those of the Committee or Town Council. 569 questionnaires were returned, a 23% response rate. In addition to the household questionnaire, 284 Chickerell businesses were consulted and invited to make comment. Congratulations to questionnaire draw winners, Mrs E Reed (1st) and Mr W Hill (2nd).
The results will be available in a detailed report shortly, but initial findings indicate 90% support the request for a Health Centre, 89% agree Heritage Coast and 98% agree the wildlife corridor and open spaces should be protected. 66% felt the infrastructure is not keeping pace to meet our population needs. In additional many written comments have been received and will be analysed as part of the report.

November 2017: NEIGHBOURHOOD PLAN QUESTIONNAIRE. Your opinion on how the future planning and development of Chickerell counts! One completed questionnaire per household member can be eligible for the prize draw – £50 first prize or £25 second prize. Every household will receive a copy, but additional copies can be downloaded by clicking here or collecting from one of our local pick up points: Chickerell Town Council, Willowbed Hall, Chickerell Community Library, Wessex Pharmacy (Lanehouse Rocks Road), Doctor’s Surgery (Lower Way), Dental Practice (Chickerell Road), Chickerell Primary Academy and Turks Head Inn.

Following successful area designation, we are holding a community ‘drop in’ event at Willowbed Hall and invite you to call in between 10am and 12.30pm. We hope you’ll be able to share your thoughts with us and see how you can participate in our neighbourhood plan. The event will run in conjunction with the Spirit of Chickerell Village Cafe. 11th October 2016: Working party met following receipt of designation to discuss ‘getting started’. A community event is now being arranged on Saturday 26th November 2016 at Willowbed Hall 10am-12.30pm in conjuction with the Village Cafe – why not come along and get involved? 13th September 2016: West Dorset District Council Executive Committee approved the Chickerell Neighbourhood Plan Designated Area. Working with our community, the task of creating our plan can now commence.
20th June 2016: Following council approval, Chickerell Town Council submitted an application for a neighbourhood plan area designation.
